En un making common cause to maintain and restore the natural surroundings of the Alejandro Gutiérrez Police Academy, the National Police has taken the lead in a reforestation initiative along the banks of the Minitas Olivares ravine. This recent activity is a reflection of the institutions commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals and the institutional environmental policy. The reforestation is part of a rural security project, a top priority in the agenda of the National Police Director, General William René Salamanca Ramírez.
The Minitas Olivares ravine, a vital water resource for the local ecosystem, runs through the academys facilities and is home to various bird, mammal, insect, and fish species. Aware of the negative impact of pollution and deforestation, the National Police, in collaboration with territorial entities and institutional specialties, has begun planting 200 native trees from the coffee region. This initiative aims to restore the ravines basin and positively impact air quality and local wildlife habitats.
Today, we reaffirm our commitment as police officers to conserving the planet, emphasizing the importance of protecting wildlife, preserving water resources, and promoting reforestation as essential actions for a sustainable future, said Lieutenant Colonel Héctor Gerardo Daza Narváez, Director of the academy. He also highlighted the benefits of a healthier and more resilient environment, not only for the immediate ecosystem but also for the community at large.
Planting each tree is a step towards a healthier environment, an action that not only benefits the local ecosystem but also serves as a call to action for the community. The National Police hopes that this initiative will inspire others to take concrete steps towards environmental protection, emphasizing that natural resource conservation is a shared responsibility.
With these actions, the National Police strengthens its role as an environmental protector and demonstrates its unwavering commitment to future generations, ensuring that todays efforts result in a greener and more sustainable planet for all.
