Autoridades de la Fiscalía Anticorrupción de Jalisco recently made an announcement regarding the linking of four officers from the Zapotiltic municipal police force and one from Tamazula to a process of abuse of authority. The incident occurred on April 13, 2022, when three police officers arrived at Ferrería de Providencia to respond to a report of an apparently intoxicated man acting aggressively while driving a truck. However, they left after the occupants of the house did not open the door for them.
Later, both Zapotiltic and Tamazula police units arrived at the location, where officers Marco Antonio N and Leticia N, along with a third police officer from Tamazula, forced entry into the house without a search warrant, arrested the victim, and took him to the Zapotiltic Comandancia prisoner transport vehicle. The victim filed a complaint with the Fiscalía Especializada en Combate a la Corrupción, which opened a case and led to the recent ruling. The judge determined that the officers failed to prevent the abuse of authority by being present at the scene.
The judge imposed restrictions on the five officers, including reporting to the Unidad de Supervisión de Medidas Cautelares every 15 days for five months and refraining from approaching the victims or their homes, as well as leaving the state. The trial for a sixth officer also from Tamazula will be held at a later date.
